Being queer I learned to hide and veil my true self. The layers in my work mimic this behavior. As we think about our multiple selves, who do we bring to the table? I hope viewers will reflect on their identity in the world. Are you proud of who you are? Are you protecting yourself by hiding behind a veil? Or do the layers that you add to yourself highlight your truth?

As an artist and designer, I am trying to create art not only about aesthetics but also has some functions and meanings. My art highlights the beauty and complexity of the human experience. I believe that art has the power to bring people together, to spark meaningful conversations, and to inspire positive change. These two sewing pieces strive to create a space where everyone can find common ground and feel a sense of warmth and empathy for one another.

AI Generative Music V.S Human Creativity (Click here): The aim of this experiment/exhibition is to spark discussion on the significance of human creativity in music composition. This will be accomplished by contrasting music created by human composers with AI-generated music. The experiment seeks to investigate the distinction in the creative processes between human and AI composers.

Please scan the code with your phone.  The poem was generated from my own artist's statement about LOVE bomb, an AI experiment powered by feeding the machine 1,000 words.

I asked the program to re-generate the poem five times, as I cut the words and phrases apart with my scissors to rearrange text.

During my first year studying abroad, I visited numerous museums and discovered many works of art that resonated with me. I hope to use creative technologies in TCthingspace to recreate these pieces. Through this process, I seek to honor the original artist's vision while also expressing my own unique interpretation and perspective. Ultimately, my goal towards the project is to bring new life and meaning to these artworks and share them with more accessibility to a wider audience.

My projects aim to delve into the profound aesthetics of traditional Chinese culture and articulate its essence through a harmonious collage of classic Chinese poetry, colors, music, calligraphy, paintings, and symbolic representations by utilizing creative technologies like laser cutting, felting, and weaving. The design of the lantern frames and fans drew inspiration from the ancient Chinese window motifs, shaped in the traditional spelling of my family name 嚴 (严, Yan).
